The goal of this workshop is to introduce participants to the broad landscape of health research in Canada. Together we will cover a wide range of topics, including:
Defining the purpose of health research
Understanding the role of funding agencies
Who typically conducts research studies
The traditional role of patients as research ‘subjects’
Stages of a research study
How to develop a good research question
Ethical considerations in health research
The peer review process
How to share study findings
The BC SUPPORT Unit is one of eleven SUPPORT Units established across the country as part of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). Our BC SUPPORT Unit helps researchers within the Vancouver Island region to streamline and increase their ‘patient-oriented research’ studies. This course is intended to increase patient engagement in research roles beyond the traditional "study participant" role.
