Getting health information can be fun!

Giving people a long list of �shoulds� and �shouldn�ts� doesn�t usually motivate them to change unhealthy habits. What does work, however, is linking health to things we care about � such as community, creativity, celebration, nature, and culture. This is what our Health Festival is all about.

There will be hula hoops and art for kids, kittens for adoption, raw food samples, a deliciously healthy food concession, recycling info, Touch for Health, a bellydance performance, and organic products to help you create a non-toxic home.

There will be a chance to try out Pilates, meditation, aerobics, and bellydance in a series of free half-hour mini-workshops. The Baynes Sound Garden Club will be on hand to share gardening expertise and heritage seeds. Or if you�d rather spend your free time playing cards, go talk to members of the Bridge Club about this great game, which is a proven way of promoting brain health.

There will also be a presentation on Practical Tips for Healthy Eating, which will look beyond the fads and the conflicting media information to give us some solid, no-nonsense nutritional advice, and a talk about the Crossroads Crisis Centre. As well, there will be a wide variety of tables with information on everything from fire safety to yoga to environmental issues.

This project is supported by the Community Based Awareness Initiative, which is a joint initiative of the BC Recreation and Parks Association and the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon. Funding is being provided by the Healthy Living Alliance, with support from ActNow BC.
