Victoria Harbour Celebration Society will present World Champion sand sculptors, Victoria artists Fred Dobbs, Ken Abrahams, Damon Langlois, and Greg Jacklin will be joined by Charlie Beaulieu of Washington State. These artists will be creating an original, imaginative and beautiful sand sculpture for the 2nd annual Celebrate Our Harbour event. Over the day, sand and water will come to life with buckets, shovels and whole lot of talent culminating in a finished masterpiece. Visitors to the Harbour will have the opportunity to watch the sculpture take shape, meet the artists and find out just how these sand statues are made.
Celebrate Our Harbour Day, with funding from the Province of BC, is showcasing paddle boat races, historical tours, working harbour activities, maritime entertainment performances, kayaking and rowing activities, a pirate school and more. This is a fun-filled afternoon of family activities on Songhees and Ship Point, traditional territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, and on the waters of Victoria's picturesque Inner Harbour. Victoria residents and visitors are encouraged to experience the unique character, history, industry and beauty of our Harbour. There is sure to be something inspirational for attendees of all ages to celebrate.
Here's a snapshot of some of the activities offered this year:
The Harbour Race:
A recreational race for human powered watercraft. The race is open to outrigger canoes, surf skis, kayaks, dragon boats, stand up paddleboards and rowboats.
Historical/Naturalist Tours of the Harbour
Join local historian and author, John Adams, and naturalist, Jacques Sirois, for an in depth look at Victoria's natural and cultural history.
Traditional Greenland Sea Kayak Rolling Demonstration
Michael Jackson, a competitive roller, will be will be showing off some of the 35 different kinds of Greenland kayak rolls.
Victoria Harbour Ferry Shuttle between Ship Point and Songhees Point
For the landlubbers, there will be regular courtesy shuttle service aboard the great little H2O Taxi Boats, allowing participants to enjoy venues on both shores.
Public Tours of Point Hope Maritime
Participants will discover the history and modern day facilities of Victoria's first shipyard, established in 1873. The extensive facilities include a floating dry dock, a marine railway and a 15,000 square climate controlled specialized assembly shed for fabrication.
Maritime Museum's Pirate School
Courtesy of the Maritime Museum of BC, wannabe pirates can learn the art of scrimshaw, create treasure maps, get 'tattooed' and become skilled buccaneers with special balloon pirate swords.

Back Ground - Victoria Harbour Celebration Society
The inaugural Celebrate Our Harbour Day April 17, 2011 event was a success with over 1000 people participating in the day enjoying the human powered watercraft race, in the harbor, and information displays from Ocean River Sports, Selkirk Station Bicycle & Kayak, Whitehall Spirit Rowing Club, Victoria Canoe and Kayak Club, South Island Sea Kayaking Association and Save Victoria Harbour. Denise Savoie, Elizabeth May and Chris Causton attended the event with Town Crier Bob Alexander heralding an inspiring presentation by David Anderson.
For the success of the 2011 Celebrate Our Harbour Day (COHD), the organizing committee banded together to form the Victoria Harbour Celebration Society (VHCS). The Society's purpose is to: celebrate the historical and cultural diversity of the Harbour, showcase the Harbour�s wide range of diverse uses, promote safety and awareness in the Harbour and organize a celebration of the Victoria Harbour.
Victoria Harbour Celebration Society�s founding members: Anne Sheridan of Selkirk Station Bicycle & Kayak, Alastair Wilson of Aloha Paddlers, Jennie Sutton of the South Island Sea Kayaking Association, Cindy Wright and Tim Houlihan of the Ocean River Paddling Club, Brian Henry of Ocean River Sports, Harold Aune of Whitehall Spirit Rowing Club, Doug Linton and Roberta Taylor, along with supporting organizations, will bring together the 2012 year�s event.
