With the help of submersibles, archaeologists now have access to centuries old artifacts in shipwrecks 1,200 metres below the surface.
Exploring the deep frontier is the theme of the Underwater Archaeological Society of B.C.'s 24th Shipwrecks conference, Saturday (March 20) at the Maritime Museum of B.C.
Chis Horrell of the U.S. Minerals Management Service will describe how the wreck dubbed Mardi Gras was located off the Gulf of Mexico and how archaeologists brought hundreds of artifacts to the surface.
