Vancouver Island Events Website

About Us

It takes a community to raise a child...and HarbourLiving.ca is a demanding one. Over the last six years, the website has grown from a small Central Island baby, developing and growing with every passing year. With nearly 1000 event listings per month submitted by over 4000 event organizers and the support of advertisers, HarbourLiving.ca has become Vancouver Island's most comprehensive resource for events.

Meet the family that makes it happen:

Kimberly Miller - Events Manager

What I do at HarbourLiving is...
I'm a Jill-of-all-trades! I've been managing the event listings on the website since 2008 and love working with Event Organizers to get their listings as much exposure as possible. Preparing Harbour Living Weekly and writing the editorials, blog posts and website copy are some of my favourite things to do...and when that's all done I design advertising and website graphics while I'm talking about HarbourLiving.ca to all our social media pals. It's a fantastic adventure that's always growing and changing.

Favourite Vancouver Island Event?

The Hornby Island Fall Fair.  It's the ultimate combination of sunshine, fall scents, well dressed livestock, lovely people, quilts and pie.  All of the beautiful elements of a unique and precious lifestyle...captured in a magnificent location.

What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I edge the lawn with scissors. Takes a while...but man is it ever even.

What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?
Right now it's Messages by Xavier Rudd, but anything by Chris Smither will always be a fixture.

Where can you be found when you aren't at an event or working on HarbourLiving.ca?
When I'm alone you'll always find me in the garden or the studio. When my husband is free, though, you'll never find us. We'll be out exploring places deep in the forests, rivers and coves.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Argentinian Tango. I've got the passion, but I'm not sure I've got the wardrobe.

Seeking Balance and Beauty: Part One

What brought you to Vancouver Island?
WestJet. It's the only one-way vacation ticket my husband and I have ever bought.

What kept you here?
There's nowhere else I'd rather be. The unparallelled natural beauty of this Island is a source of constant awe and surprise to me, and I feel a kinship with all the interesting people who have been similarly drawn here. It's a place where creativity seeps out of every crack in the sandstone and wisp of fog in the tall trees, and every day I feel inspired to celebrate it's grandeur and create something beautiful.
It's the crossroads where the earth and ocean meet, and the end of the road for me.

Mindi Pettitt - President

What I do at HarbourLiving is...
Keep the website up and running. As the creator of HarbourLiving.ca my role has changed many times in the past 6 years, but my favourite part is the marketing.

Favourite Vancouver Island Event?

Filberg Festival! Growing up in the Comox Valley this was annual tradition to volunteer with my friends and eat way too much cotton candy. As an adult I love to wander around and discover new artists.

What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I take a lot of risks. I'm pretty adventurous, so I'm always trying new things and travelling to new places.

What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?
Right now it's Royal Blue by Cold War Kids, but generally it's any song by Jason Mraz. Goes with my beach vibe.

Where can you be found when you aren't at an event or working on HarbourLiving.ca?
At the beach with my husband Dave and my dog Goliath.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
SURF!

What would you name the autobiography of your life?
The Great Adventures of Mindi

What brought you to Vancouver Island?
My mom (I was born in Comox)

What kept you here?
The Nanaimo River!
