THE KILTLIFTERS

6-piece party-ska band from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, Canada. 4 CDs, 4 tours, and many kegs of Guinness down since 1999!

If you are in need of a party - the Kiltlifters are ready to skank and deliver! Get ready for an explosion of zany west-coast ska, hilarious vocals, three searing horns and an emphasis on dancing, partying, and fun.

The Kiltlifters formed in 1999 in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The band members were all students or graduates of the renowned Malaspina University jazz program. After six months, they recorded their first CD, Pass the Popcorn. The disc reached 41 on the National Campus Radio charts, including 1 in Fredericton, New Brunswick!

Amplifying their success across Canada was three cross-country tours in support of Popcorn, in 1999 and 2000. With the release of their newest effort, Serious George, the band is ready to take to the road again. George consists of sixteen tracks, ranging from pop-ska anthems, crunchy ska-punk, jazzy instrumentals and even a soca homage to the beaches of their beloved hometown. The band is also working on their first music video, for "I Wanna Be a Goalie (for the Vancouver Canucks)."

The band has headlined and performed as part of numerous Vancouver Island festivals and shows, including the CHUM TV's VILand New Years, Victoria Ska Festival, Nanaimo Marine Festival, Youthfest Victoria, and the Nanaimo's Canada Day Festivities. In November of 2004, the Kiltlifters appeared in a series of videos for Shaw TV's "Locker Room," an Island-based sports-feature program-a show the band composed the theme music for.

A key to the success of the Kiltlifters is the band's diversity; with over 200 hundred shows in their history and a strong rooting in jazz theory, the band is able to perform appropriately whether at a punk show, family-oriented festival, university pub, or even weddings!

The band believes passionately in the spirit of ska and encourages everyone to learn about and enjoy the roots and energy of this musical community.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN REBEL MUSIC

throws down the new funky reggae sound!

The band, from Victoria BC, started in the summer of 2008 and has evolved to include 10 musicians from across Canada. This diverse collective talent accounts for the band's high energy and full sound as well as its broad range of musical influences. Charged by Reggae, Rock, Funk, Dub, Dancehall, Punk, and World Rhythms, Rocky Mountain Rebel Music delivers an original sound that defies comparison. Shredding guitars, bubblin' keys, smooth horns, hand percussion, drums, and heavy bass form the rough and rugged foundation upon which vocals rise and fall like the tide on Vancouver Island's rocky coast.

This infinitely danceable sound has captured the attention of the Victoria live music scene with numerous sellout shows to date. In the summer of 2009, less than a year after the band had been fully assembled, they were honoured to be the first band to play at Victoria’s 10th annual Ska Fest. RMRM then released their eponymous debut album which was supported by a nationwide headlining tour spanning 13 dates in 6 provinces. The entire first pressing of 'Rocky Mountain Rebel Music' was sold out by the time the band wrapped this first tour, in Quebec City.

Known for mixing up their sound with numerous instruments such as Violin, Didgeridoo, Space Drum and often working with other local artists and musicians, RMRM never plays the same set twice! The band has also worked in collaboration with Victoria hip-hop group The Pocket Kings on the track “Light It Up” on the eponymous CD as well as playing a series of successful shows as an 11-piece hip-hop mashup. These rebels are notorious for their high energy, open air guerilla concerts, parties, and overall support and involvement in the Victoria music scene.

Always looking forward, RMRM is planning a second tour in the summer of 2010 and are eager to record a second album. Check out the live show for lots of tasty new tracks, bangin’ beats, and ridiculous riddims. Can you jump to this?
