THE INSTRUCTORS
KATE RUBIN has lived and worked professionally as an actor and drama teacher in Victoria for over 20 years. She has worked as an instructor and workshop leader for many theatres, schools and organizations in the city including Kaleidoscope Theatre, Langham Court Theatre, Theatre Inconnu, Camosun College, and the University of Victoria. She has been running her own studio since 1996. She is currently on staff with The Belfry Theatre facilitating their Belfry 101 Program for high school students. As an actor, Kate has performed for local theatre companies, including WAVE Collective, Giggling Iguana Productions, Puente Theatre, Theatre Inconnu amongst many others.
GINA MCINTOSH graduated with a BFA from York University's performance program and has been acting and teaching theatre to youth and adults for more than two decades. In Victoria she has performed at the Belfry (Girl in the Golfish Bowl, Attic Pearls), the Metro Studio (Marion Bridge, Yellow Ribbon), The McPherson Playhouse (Charlotte's Web), Craigdarroch Castle (The Mysterious Mister Love) among other venues. She has worked with Kate as a fellow actor numerous times and has taught at the studio on and off over the past 7 years. Gina has earned three M Awards for acting.
MATTHEW PAYNE is a founding member of Victoria’s Theatre SKAM and serves as the innovative company’s Artistic Producer. He has played numerous roles in SKAM’s 15-year history, including Louis in Louis and Dave, and Hamlet, Macbeth, and others in The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged) and has created dozens of original plays. Previous teaching experience includes working in elementary schools with artsREACH, whose mission is to send arts professionals into elementary schools for 90-minute classes to teach their craft.
ERICA PARKER PETTY has been teaching theatre to youth over the past eight years. She is an actor, theatre teacher, and arts administrator and has played such roles for theatre companies and schools across Western Canada, including artsREACH, Kaleidoscope Theatre, The Screen Actors Studio, Grande Prairie Live Theatre, Grande Prairie Regional College, and Thumbs Up Theatre. Erica studied theatre at Grande Prairie Regional College and is a graduate of Grant MacEwan College’s Arts and Cultural Management diploma program.
MELISSA BLANK is a graduate of the Mount Royal College theatre program and the Canadian College of the Performing Arts, and has also studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. As an actor, she has performed with numerous companies including Chemainus Theatre, Giggling Iguana Productions, and Langham Court Theatre. She has been assisting and teaching at the Kate Rubin Theatre & Drama Studio for the past four years.
ANA DE LARA is a professional actor and acting instructor with a specialty in improvisational theatre. In addition to her credits on stage and the screen, she has performed with numerous improv troupes in North America. She graduated from Presentation House Film and Theatre School, and studied improv techniques intensively with Vancouver TheatreSports League, Keith Johnstone, and Bay Area TheatreSports in San Francisco. She has over 10 years of experience teaching drama to youth and adults and has taught for numerous schools and organizations in Victoria.
