Korey began in 2002 when he discovered LiquiD dNb in the dirty underground scene of Victoria as DJ Smurf. Getting deck-time under the eyes of Willow and Erin K he developed his skills and unique style of sharp hi's and reflective beats. After nearly 8 years and many styles, ranging from Disco-House to Trance, Breaks to DnB, Reggaeton to Bhangra, and Elektro to Speed Garage, he's discovered not only his expertise, but also himself.
Humming those big choons that he heard the night before, he realized his true love was the anthemic choruses of 2-Step, the champagne bubble bass of Speed-Garage, and black-and-blue beat of 4x4. Finding his diva-like side heavily expressed with the screaming vocals, and dutty emotions produced by this UK music this CANadian boy was in love.
Being around many of the top Fidget artists on the Island, and Elektro artists in Vancouver he knows that the only way to compete on the DJ Scene, is to have those aggresive, dirty properties that make Fidget and Elektro so desireable; these are the Korps of music, and to shoot Straight, the new era of Dub-Step is the only thing that can bring that to the mashmellow that is UKG. Creating CAN-UK HOP, a heart-warming, womperful time to create a whole new family.
Straight Korps has played mainly at house parties and in the underground in Vancouver the last few years, but you may have seen him at Say No To Zombies last year, Black And White, or many of the support and birthday parties over the years. Be sure to keep an eye out for this building DJ, as he's got big plans for a big decade, and as we see, it's all about the beginning.
