Come meet Jack Pine and his friends as they explore some of the myths and facts of Canada's vast forests. Follow the story of gnarly and misunderstood Jack as he finds his place among the trees.
Jack Pine is a wonderful celebration of a tenacious tree. Found throughout Canada east of the Rockies, as well as in New England and the Great Lakes states, Jack Pine is a "nurse tree," sheltering the seedlings of other trees. Short and twisted, it has seldom been logged, and because it grows so well in bad soil, farmers in past centuries sometimes thought it had poisoned their land.
In a poem as knotty and beautiful as the tree itself, Christopher Patton tells the story of one Jack Pine, and conveys the splendor of the pine forests that once covered much of eastern North America.
