Mendelssohn String Symphonies

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Felix Mendelssohn’s birth, the program presents four of his twelve “youth symphonies”. They were written during the years 1821 to 1823 when this young genius was between 12 and 14 years of age. For strings only, they were intended for performance in the Mendelssohn household and were not published or publicly performed until after the Second World War.


Symphony No.1 in C Major

Symphony No. 12 in G minor

Symphony No. 10 in B minor

Symphony no. 9 in C Major
