Dancing Bean Cafe Presents Light Sweet Crude

Chris Trygg was introduced to Rick Van Krugel in the summer of 2005 at a time when Chris had need of a temporary replacement lead player in the trio Vincent Black Lightning. The rest is history. Rick is married to poet and author Linda Rogers (Poet Laureate of the City of Victoria 2009-2011). When Chris suggested Linda present him with some lyrics to try his hand at musically, he had no idea what he was in for. When B.C. musical legends Richard Bryan Baker and Andy Graffiti moved to Victoria within a year of each other, Chris couldn't resist the reunion with two very old friends. Enter the inimitable Steven Drake, not just another pretty face, but also notorious for both his musical skills and his accomplishments as a live recording engineer, important because what you hear is simply a damn fine BAND, not just another manufactured product.
Steve was insistent he was to bring the perfect bass player and introduced us to the laid-back and gifted Del Cowsill, clearly endowed with the musical genetic code of his famed musical family. Though they didn't want a full-on country sound in our blend of neo-Americana, they wanted some steel guitar, and multi-instrumentalist Jake Galbraith is perfect, with his background in Hawai'ian music and history of western swing to boot.
You will find a simple but stunning elegance to this band's steel sound.
What you will hear on March 13 is a "coffee house" configuration of Light Sweet Crude, the trio consisting of Chris, Jake, and Rick. These three musicians are the core of the band's essential signature sound, as Chris' powerful voice combines with acoustic rhythm guitar, Rick's mandolin and Jake's steel guitar. This threesome promises to deliver an evening of good solid music that includes some fine
new songs you will most likely be hearing for the first time.
