COMOX VALLEY ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL.
The Comox Valley Environmental Council will have a meeting at the Comox Regional District Boardroom, 550B Comox Road, at 7:00 pm, Wed. January 20, 2010. There will be a short presentation by Dave Davies, concerning the “Restoration of the Courtenay River Estuary”.
Dave Davies has been involved with the “Estuary Working Group” for some time now, and has applied his considerable expertise to the challenge of restoring the estuary to as natural a condition as possible. The E.W.G. came into existence as a result of the ‘Heart of the Watershed Symposium on Restoring the Courtenay River Estuary’ held in October 2008. Various local environmental groups have had input to this project, regular weekly meetings are ongoing. FMI, .
The Courtenay River estuary is a large “disturbed” area with shared jurisdictions by Native people, City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, and the Comox Valley Regional District. There are many areas around the estuary which can now be changed to; increase urban parkland, help the local environment, enhance tourism, and indeed improve the living standards of all in the Comox Valley. Please come to the meeting, learn more about the estuary, and find out how you can help.
The Comox Valley Environmental Council is a 19 year old 'Not for Profit Society' which acts as an umbrella organization for 20 local environmental organizations and local Municipal and Regional representatives. CVEC meets about seven times a year, meetings are open to the public, are generally with a small group of people, and often include a short presentation of some local issue. We especially welcome attendance by any representatives of Environmental organizations which may wish to join CVEC.
