The VGS is excited to present Adrian Raeside! Editorial cartoonist for the Victoria Times Colonist for 30 years, his cartoons appear in over 250 newspapers and magazines worldwide.
Mr. Raeside is the author of more than a dozen books and will be sharing some of his experiences in researching his latest book, RETURN TO ANTARCTICA, an account of his grandfather’s role in the 1910 Scott Expedition to the South Pole.
Want to know more? Visit http://returntoantarctica.com/ for a preview.
We will have copies of RETURN TO ANTARCTICA available at this event. The books are $34.95 each, plus GST, payable at time of purchase via cash or cheque (sorry, no credit cards). To pre-order a copy please e-mail vp@victoriags.org and we’ll make sure we have one put aside for you.
We would ask that if you are considering purchasing a copy of Mr. Raeside’s new book that you purchase it at a VGS meeting. The sale of the book will help offset some of the costs associated with Mr. Raeside’s appearance. Mr. Raeside will be happy to autograph books purchased at the January meeting.
As always, admission is free for members, guests by donation.
Celebrating their 31st Anniversary, the Victoria Genealogical Society meets on the second Thursday of each month from September through June. Meetings begin at 7:30 pm at the Gordon Head United Church, 4201 Tyndall Avenue, Victoria. Whether you're new to family history or have been researching your family for a while, please join us!
Most meetings feature a guest speaker presenting on topics related to genealogy, history and heritage. To see who the upcoming speakers will be, visit the VGS website at http://www.victoriags.org/meetings.htm.
The Victoria Genealogical Society (VGS) was established in 1978 as a non-profit volunteer society whose aim is to further the study of genealogy - the exciting search for one's ancestors and family history.
The VGS is a great place to meet people who truly care about the past and families; people who can teach you wonderful lessons about research and history. You can work directly with these people, learn from them, and help each other as you search for your family.
The VGS meets monthly, welcoming new members and encouraging more seasoned researchers to share their experiences and swap stories. Members and guests chat about Family Tree research and enjoy a guest speaker whose presentation is of interest to the Family Tree enthusiast.
Between meetings, the Victoria Genealogical Society Resource Centre in Vic West is open for browsing or research with a large collection of books, maps, periodicals and working papers of genealogical interest. Not just for local research, the centre has materials covering all provinces and territories of Canada as well as the US, UK and other countries. Special Interest Groups (SIGs) bring together members with similar interests and research objectives to participate in small, focused meetings and discussions. SIGs generally meet once a month at the VGS Resource Centre, in groups ranging from 4 to 10 people. Visit our website for hours and location - http:www.victoriags.org/library.htm
The Society's Journal is published four times a year and contains interesting articles contributed by members as well as international genealogical news. The VGS website (www.VictoriaGS.org) offers a searchable database and links to other resources and upcoming events.
Membership rates for the Victoria Genealogical Society are $45.00 for individuals or the Family membership at $70.00 (Canadian) per year. If you'd like info about membership please send an e-mail to Membership@VictoriaGS.org and we'll get back to you.
