Dear Friends,

We, the VIU-WUSC Local Committee, are a group of globally concerned students at Vancouver Island University. We work in partnership with the Canadian Development Agency and World University Service of Canada (WUSC); together we share a belief that education changes the world. This year we are devoted to sponsoring our second student refugee to immigrate to Canada and pursue their educational goals at Vancouver Island University.

As you can appreciate, this sponsorship comes at a considerable cost. The total amount to sponsor a student attending Vancouver Island University is $20,000, which includes the living and school expenses for the student for an entire year.

We are pleased to invite you to Harambee: an evening of food, dance and enjoyment, with all proceeds providing sponsorship to a student refugee from Africa to immigrate to Canada and pursue higher education at VIU. There will be a 4 course meal prepared by local chefs, music provided by a lively local band with African flavour, and a silent auction. Tickets are $55.00 and are tax deductible.

The Co-Chair Laura Albion will be able to answer your call or respond to your message. For a table of ten, there is a special rate of $475 and a special rate for a table of 8, which is $380.
