Workplace Spill Response Course (Level One)

This course is appropriate for personnel who work with, or could come across hazardous materials in the course of their duties. Learn the various Canadian legislation and regulations (both Federal and Provincial) governing hazardous materials, identification of HAZMAT, spill response procedures, personal protection equipment, and much more. You will gain theoretical as well as practical knowledge that is essential for safe and effective spill response.
Knowledge to be acquired:
� Containment and confinement practices for accidental release
� Preventative controls
� Selection and use of personal protective equipment
� Respiratory protection
� Environmental and physical hazards of chemical spills
� Use and selection of spill response materials
� Communicating within the team and outside the team
Skills to be acquired:
� Recognizing and assessing hazards
� Strategies for Removing and Controlling Hazards
� Operations within a team structure
� Donning & Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment
� Packaging and labeling spill cleanup material
After completing this course the attendee will able to describe the hazards of a spill and how they may cause injury or illness, Identify the relevant legislation, standards or guidelines related to the spill and prepare an Action Plan to identify, assess and control the spill based on an actual workplace situation. Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences, and the group is shown a simulated spill and how to properly respond.
Each attendee is certified for 2 years and will receive a wallet and framed certificate.
