Victoria JazzFest presents the Sun Trio at Hermann's Jazz Club on June 23.
Scandinavia has a long-standing jazz tradition, and one of their best emerging bands is Finland�s SUN Trio. The group is fronted by trumpet virtuoso Kalevi Louhivuori, who has performed with such luminaries as Randy Brecker and Dave Liebman. Longtime bandmate Olavi Louhivuori is a versatile and award-winning drummer who has performed around the world with such artists as Lee Konitz and Anthony Braxton. Rounding out the group is bassist Antti L�tj�nen, equally fluent on electric and acoustic. With two much-praised CDs to their credit including the most recent, Dreams Are True, SUN Trio produces sparse and arresting jazz of an icy beauty.
