Local blues legends the Uncle Wigglys Hot Shoes Blues Band will play Victorias Tallyho Sports Bar on Saturday, March 8.

This will be a great show for dancers, and the newly renovated Tallyho with its spacious dance floor is the perfect venue to showcase this legendary band, said Deb Rhymer, VBS chair.

The band, known as Uncle Wigglys to fans, got their start at the University of Victorias sub pub in the late 70s. Independent recording led to an RCA contract and high-profile shows, with such acts as Joe Cocker, Paul Butterfield and Stevie Ray Vaughan, among others.

Uncle Wigglys blazed a trail for the rest of us, said Rhymer. They were leaders in Victorias independent music scene in the early 80s and their legacy carries on today in some of the great younger bands that are rising up through the ranks in Victorias blues scene.

The band released a new CD in 2013. Called Still Burnin it Up, it got five stars out of five on the Blues Underground Network rates, with critic John Vermilyea callin it, one of the more solid and entertaining Canadian releases of the year. The CD went on to become number seven of the Blues Underground Network's Top 10 Canadian Blues Albums for 2013.

Still with most of its original lineup, Uncle Wigglys includes original members Hank Uncle Wiggly Lionhart (lead vocals), Norm the Doctor Piercy (bass), Mark Westcoast Comerford (guitar), Dave the Duck Rowse (sax), Brent Watermelon Hutchinson (sax) and newest member Tyler Kid Cadilac Piercy (drums). Uncle Wigglys were inducted into the Victoria Music Hall of Fame in 2010 as most influential Blues Group (1950 -1979).
