Tony Turner is a singer-songwriter and resident of Nanaimo. For decades he honed his song craft in the Ottawa folk music scene before moving to Vancouver Island in 2017. With a rich baritone singing voice, his beloved acoustic guitar and harmonica, Tony walks a thoughtful and sometimes humorous musical path with his portraits of nature, working folks and modern society.
Tony has recorded three critically acclaimed CDs of original compositions. His shows are an entertaining mix of original material and well-chosen tunes from past decades.
Joining Tony on stage are Arlene Carson (accordion, piano and vocals) and Joe Spinelli on upright bass. Note: the start time listed is for the trio's feature performance. A jam session begins at 6:30 pm followed by an open stage at 7 pm and then the feature performance at 9 pm.
In 2015 Tony’s much-loved anthem Circle of Song was published in Rise Again, the sequel to the popular Rise Up Singing folk songbook. In 2016 Tony was awarded a Spirit of Folk award from Folk Alliance International and in 2017 a volunteer award was named in his honour.
