Cristina will share her experiences with the last Ice Hunters from the North, the artisinal fishermen of Brazil, life with the indigenous cultures of Tibet and Papa New Guinea, the Spirit Bears of the Great Bear Rainforest and the inhabitants of the Salish Sea, from above, and below, the surface, always returning home, to the Water's Edge.
All proceeds from the event are shared with SeaLegacy and the Surfrider Vancouver Island Foundation. Cristina Mittermeier is a Mexican-born marine biologist and ethnographic photographer specializing in conservation issues around the ocean and indigenous cultures.
As a writer and photographer for the past 25 years, most recently on assingment for National Geographic, her works brings into focus the delicate balance between human well-being and healthy eco-systems. She is co-founder, along with her partner, Paul Nicklen, of SeaLegacy, based in Qualicum Beach, BC.
