This province-wide initiative by Sierra Club BC (in association with British Columbia Sustainable Energy Association) seeks to build awareness about existing and emerging endeavors that are helping transition our communities away from dependence on fossil fuels and moving us toward a renewable energy based, more stable local economy. The event screens an award-winning documentary, The Future of Energy: Lateral Power to the People, highlighting North American communities becoming energy self-sufficient through clean renewable sources.
A panel discussion and question period will follow the film and features representatives from various local green sectors including organic farming and green building. Larissa Stendie, Sierra Club BC climate and energy campaigner, will moderate.
Displays from local businesses and groups will include a variety of green initiatives, such as: · Green building and retro-fitting · Solar and wind power generation and installation · Food Security (community gardens, organic farming, composting initiatives) · Alternative transportation (cyclists, electric cars, transit initiatives) · Green finance
