The Bethlehem Centre is offering a peaceful full weekend of chanting to nurture and pamper your soul! The workshop takes place starting at 3:00 PM Friday, January 31st until 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 2nd at 2371 Arbot Rd. Immersed in serenity and community, enjoy, learn and practice the ancient art of chanting with a faculty of renowned and diverse facilitators. This highly successful program will include chanting in Jewish, Himalayan, Christian, Muslim, other ancient and contemporary traditions. Hosted by Gabriola Island’s sensational musical group Trio Sayso (featuring the vocal harmonies of Tina Jones, cellist Allannah Dow, and keyboardist/pianist Leah Hokanson), the weekend will offer unique chanting workshop experiences from diverse cultures. Vancouver-based Rabbi Laura Duhan Kaplan, along with her husband Charles, a professional musician will guide chanting based on Jewish traditions. Pandit Tejomaya from Lasqueti Island will guide chanting in the Himalayan tradition. Kirtan, Christian, Muslim, and other chanting practices will be announced.
Meditation practices such as chanting have been shown to reduce the body’s stress response. Hong Kong Center of Buddhist Studies researchers discovered that the power of chanting is highly effective when dealing with psychological suffering. As an added bonus, chanting offers psychological healing benefits by enabling the manifesting of intention, while connecting the practitioner with the divine.
