The 5th Annual Oak Bay Christmas Cup Hockey Tournament - in support of Victoria Hospice

What started as a pick-up hockey game of Oak Bay High grads back in town over the holidays has become a Boxing Day tradition not to be missed. The family friendly event has grown into a 64 player hockey tournament with 4 teams vying for the Xmas Cup Trophy - all in support of a good cause. Gather your family and friends for a great night of hockey at 5 pm Boxing Day with all proceeds going to Victoria Hospice.

The tournament features a wide range of skill levels and ages from guys who play once a year to Oak Bay grads and their dads. But there are also pro-level players like Mark Walton, Captain of the Victoria Cougars and Nate Forster, drafted by the Washington Capitals. �I have a line-up of guys wanting to play�, says event organizer Sean Tackaberry.

�We realized we could do something really positive with this event and so we started raising money for charities that have really helped our friends and participants� says Tackaberry. �It is also really important to us that the money raised has the biggest impact possible for those who need it, which is one of the reasons we chose Victoria Hospice.� The Oak Bay Xmas Cup has raised over $10,000 to date for various charities including Children�s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island and BC Cancer Foundation.

The action starts at 5pm, December 26th at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. The mini tournament will be broken into 4 � 1hr games, 2 round robin games followed by a third place game and the championship game for the Xmas Cup. Entrance is by donation and there will also be a silent auction. All proceeds will be donated to Victoria Hospice for their ongoing programs and services to provide quality end-of-life care
