Canadian chanteuse, Cari Burdett brings a timeless blend of dramatic gypsy cabaret to the stage, taking audiences on a trip around the world through song. Her first studio album, ‘Magnolia’, was nominated as Best World Music Album in the 2015 West Canadian Music Awards.

Burdett’s background includes degrees from McGill University and a Master’s of vocal performance from the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, in London UK. Burdett presents three, newly arranged songs from ‘Magnolia’, including: Caruso, Lucio Dallo’s Italian masterpiece, made famous by Domingo and Pavoroti; as well as, Loveliness by Victoria’s own singer-songwriter, Anne Schaeffer.

Canadian master-musician, Adrian Dolan (Ruth Moody Band, The Bills) arranged these two songs to suit Cari’s unique voice. Piaf Medley, presents a swinging, new take on two of Piaf’s most well known songs; arranged by Richard Moody, Burdett’s long-time collaborator. Also on the program: the dramatic Habanera from Carmen, the renowned Gershwin Ballad, The Man I Love also performed with full orchestra along with a Robbie Burns dedication of The Lea, in an intimate setting for guitar and flute.

“This is where I feel at home’ says Burdett, “Singing while surrounded by the grandiose expanse of a full orchestra.” Sooke Philharmonic’s internationally acclaimed violist and maestro, Norman Nelson and his wife Jenny attended Cari’s CD Release concert last year, and invited her, on the spot, to perform for this Valentine’s concert. “I’m thrilled to work with Norman Nelson and the Sooke Philharmonic,’ says Burdett, “the opportunity to create new arrangements for orchestra, is a vocalist’s dream.”
