SKAMpede is Theatre SKAM’s annual outdoor live performance festival, running July 13 and 14. SKAMpede features short shows of dance, theatre, music, spoken word, clowning, and more that are suitable for the whole family. Short performances take place along Harbour Road and the Galloping Goose Trail, and audiences travel from show to show by bicycle, rollerblade, electric mobility scooter, skateboard, or on foot (anything that's legal on the Goose).
How does SKAMpede work?
Audiences arrive at The Hub (Southwest Plaza, just west of the Johnson Street Bridge - don’t worry you won’t miss us!), register at our check-in tent to receive their SKAM sticker, and proceed to the departure gates where they are met by a team of audience wranglers. Audiences are dispatched on a tour with a map to take in three to four shows, then return to The Hub to get ready for the next tour. Performing companies repeat their short shows several times a day for these small audiences. Audiences can see up to 12 shows for FREE!
This year the festival will offer performances by national artists from Iqaluit, Dartmouth, Banff, Toronto, and Vancouver, as well as beloved local theatre artists from Vancouver Island. Between shows audiences enjoy live music, interactive art, food, drinks, and activities at the Hub. It’s the perfect combination of live performance, outdoors, and summer fun!
Theatre SKAM will offer two ASL Interpreted Tours and one Described Tour for those with vision loss. You must register for these tours in advance. Contact [email protected] to register.
NEW THIS YEAR: SKAMpede’s Hub will be zero-waste! Zero Waste Emporium is generously supporting the festival to ensure our concessions and bar will only use reusable and eco-friendly products. Audiences will enjoy the beauty of nature and outdoor performances while supporting efforts to preserve the environment.
