The Canadian Mental Health Association Mid Island is proud to be hosting the third annual Shoppers Drug Mart Ride Don't Hide in Nanaimo on Father's Day! Everyone is invited to come participate, cyclists of all ages and skill levels from beginner to advanced in teams, or as individuals. Invite your family, friends and co-workers to ride with you for mental health.
This year we have two cycling routes. One for beginners and families with the option of a half-way turn around point and a more challenging ride for more experienced riders. All riders are expected to wear a helmet and follow the rules of the roads and trails. 14.9km – The first ride meanders down the E&N Trail to Jinglepot Rd. and back on one of the most popular trails in Nanaimo. The paved trail is in an urban area and offers safe fun for cyclists of all ages and abilities. This ride has an option to go to the turn around point for younger riders. 35.51km – This is a more challenging ride with three climbs through the East Wellington Jingle Pot area to Aulds Rd and back along Uplands to the E&N Trail. Riders need to be able to average 20km an hour for the average estimated time of 2 and 1/2 hours. The ride goes through both beautiful countryside and residential areas. The cost is $35.00 including a t-shirt Kids 12 and under are free. T-shirt may be purchased for $12.00 each
This year our goal is 150 riders and we hope to raise $15,000. The fun community fundraiser includes a rider warm up, entertainment, prizes including a Bicycle for the highest fundraiser donated by Pacific Rim Bicycle, community booths, a BBQ, Face Painting and activities for the whole family.
After the bike ride we will be joining the Men's Centre Father's Day event in the park. Shopper’s Drug Mart Ride Don’t Hide raises awareness and funds which enable us to continue to offer essential work in our community. All funds will be used locally to provide public education programs like our mental health speaker series and Living Life to the Full courses that help participants learn skills to help them tackle life’s problems.
