Thursday, December 5th, 2013
Lecture begins at 7 pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early.

Join Dr. Caroline Fox to learn more about herring, their spawn events and recently traced interactions with coastal wildlife, including black bears and wolves.

Described as a dominant forage fish, a backbone of the coast and a foundation species, Pacific herring play a key role in coastal ecosystems. Each year, in one of the coasts most spectacular natural events, herring gather to spawn along Pacific coastlines. The water turns chalk white, entire kelp forests sink and marine predators, including whales, sea lions, and birds, aggregate to feast.
