Salt Spring Forum: Stopping Trans Mountain with Reuben George
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
The TransMountain pipeline expansion and tanker project was stopped in its tracks when the Federal Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, finding that the constitutional obligation of meaningful consultation had not been fulfilled.
Reuben George is the Manager of The Sacred Trust, the organization created by the Tsleil-Waututh to stop the project. He is also the grandson of Chief Dan George, the legendary actor, poet and author.
Please come to Salt Spring to join Reuben George, his son Cedar, and 600 Salt Spring Island youth for an incredibly timely and powerful discussion about resurgence, reconciliation, leadership and environmental protection.
This event is being held during school hours so that all Gulf Islands Secondary School students can attend. Please note that the students will be participating in Orange Shirt Day to recognize the victims and descendants of victims of residential schools. You may wish to wear an orange shirt in solidarity.
The event is a fundraiser with all revenue from ticket sales going to the Tsleil-Waututh Nation to help with their legal costs. Additional donations may be made at the door.
Tickets available at Salt Spring Books and online at https://reubengeorge.eventbrite.ca.
$15 – 2018 Forum Members; $20 – General. (All students attend for free and do not require a ticket. Low income residents e-mail [email protected])
