7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Join us for a night of stories and inspiration from the team of Seize Change, who sailed around Vancouver Island in a Catalina 27 this summer to raise awareness of marine debris. Having never sailed before this journey, the Australian couple who completed the journey have many stories to share about their 2.5 month adventure.

Aside from just wanting to learn how to sail, they wished to complete the journey with a purpose, and thus with some enthusiastic Canadian friends developed the project Seize Change. Their aim is to re-frame the face of adventure, and inspire others to be stewards of the earth as they venture into the outdoors.

"So often we see people just taking the opportunity to consume and take advantage of a place that they visit. We want to encourage those who go on holidays and have adventures, to contribute back to society in a positive way whilst doing so."

The team of Seize Change completed the trip without using any single-use plastics to the best of their ability, conducted outreach events at schools and other public venues, participated in beach clean-ups, and performed data collection as citizen scientists.

This evening we will also be joined by the Rugged Coast Research Society, a newly formed (2017) society developed to research and restore remote coastal habitats along the BC coast. Research results are shared with stakeholders that may want to use the results to better understand the BC coast and collaboratively restore it. Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/rugged.coast.research.society/

This is a family friendly event, and there will be many prizes to be won in the raffle!
