Saturday, October 13th, 2012
11:45 AM to 12:30 PM

The Peace Pole of Pacific Shizen Aikido displays the prayer May Peace Prevail on Earth in French, Japanese, Arabic, Spanish, and SENOEN, the language of the Straits Salish people. There are more than 200,000 Peace Poles in 180 countries all over the world. They stand in public parks, at churches, schools, gardens, at the Magnetic North Pole and the pyramids of Giza, as well as many Aikido dojos. They serve as constant reminders for us to visualize world peace.

Elder John Elliott of the WSANEĆ Nation and teacher of the SENOEN language will share some stories and speak to the prayer for peace, followed by a presentation of Aikido by adults and children who train with us in Cadboro Bay.

Pacific Shizen Aikido aims to bring the spirit of Aikido in community service. We are celebrating our 5th anniversary here in Victoria and wish to acknowledge and learn from the first peoples of this land, and the work that John Elliott is doing in revitalizing his language and culture.
