Panel Discussion: Finding Food in All the Right Places
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Most of us have become aware of the importance of knowing where our food comes from and about the precarious living that our local food producers make in growing, catching, harvesting or preparing our food. Many of us have subscribed to CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) programs and received seasonal boxes of fruits and vegetables. Many of us go regularly to farmers markets or visit farms to buy food. What are some other ways of obtaining food and supporting a local food economy?
Join us for an evening discussion with three food producers who'll talk about some interesting ways to find your bread, fish and eggs. Lets see what other ideas we can spark along the way.
PANELISTS
Visiting UK baker and bread activist Andrew Whitley advocates community supported baking from his Bread Matters bakery/baking school in Scotland and is co-founder of the Real Bread Campaign that lobbies for better bread, improved labelling and more community baking and bakeries.
Guy Johnstons Michelle Rose Community Supported Fishery, now in its second year, provides a haul of subscription prawns, octopus and salmon to folk in Cowichan Bay and Victoria, helping local fishermen keep their boats on the water and earn guaranteed income from sustainable fishing.
Urban farmer Angela Moran runs Mason Street Farm in Fernwood where she enlisted her neighbours to cooperatively manage her flock of chickens on property she farms but doesnt live on: this chicken share allows them all a hand in caring for the birds and a share of the eggs they produce.
