Join us at the Deep Bay Marine Field Station for an evening of oysters and oyster lore. Did you know that the ancient Greek Naturalist Pliny the Elder was an oyster farmer? That Napoleon ate oysters before battle? Why oysters are considered an aphrodisiac? That there were as many oyster bars in Victoria in the late 1800’s as there are today? That beds of oysters were “discovered” in Comox in 1866? What makes a great oyster and how do you shuck one? What makes a great oyster wine?
Part educational seminar, part cooking class, part oyster bar, this casual evening will be all fun! Organized to coincide with the BC Shellfish and Seafood Festival, the evening will include casual eats, raw and cooked local oyster dishes, BC oyster wine pairings and of course the Field Station itself.
Proceeds from the evening will support VIU’s Public Education Programs.
