Sunday, May 15th, 2016
9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

For this explorer day we will get an up close look and learn all about the many different migrating and resident bird species in our area. Learn about how biologists study birds and why they band them.

You might even get the chance to carefully feel a tiny hummingbird's fluttering heartbeat! Buttertubs Marsh is a reclaimed wetland within Nanaimo’s city limits. VIU Biologist and nature mentor Dr. Eric Demers has been banding and studying birds here with a team of researchers for years, and we will be able to learn about migrating and breeding birds as we see them up close!

Meet at the parking lot along Venuti way, and remember to bring rubber boots as the area is muddy at this time of year.
