Nanaimo Historical Society General Meeting

The Nanaimo Historical Society invites the public to attend the next general meeting where the guest speaker will be archaeologist Clarence (Cal) Richie.
Richie will discuss the findings from his 2002 excavations at the site of the Ode Brothers shipyard (Nanaimo Shipyards Ltd., 1918) and herring saltery at Newcastle Island's Saltery Beach.
By way of images and artefacts Richie will interpret the lives and times of the Japanese Canadian business people, shipwrights, and fishermen, from the turn of the 20th century to the end of the Second World War.

The Nanaimo Historical Society is a non-profit organization. Founded in 1953, the Society's mission is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the history of Nanaimo and central Vancouver Island. Annual membership includes a subscription to British Columbia History, the quareterly journal of the British Columbia Historical Foundation.
