Did you know there is a blue slug living in the Victoria area? The Blue-grey Taildropper Slug is not only elusive but endangered, and lives in our local forests. The first blue slugs of the fall were found this week in the Metchosin area as part of the HAT Wildlife Stewardship project. These very small, very blue slugs are usually spotted in the fall under some leaves or on a mushroom, so searching for slugs can be an excellent outdoor fall activity.

This slug, along with several other creatures like bats, owls, turtles and amphibians, are the focus of habitat protection and recovery initiatives of local land trust Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT). HAT is throwing a party to help support the habitat recovery efforts for these creatures on Monday November 9th in Oak Bay.

HAT is bringing nature and music together with local guitar slinging biologists who will play a show to raise awareness and funding for habitat restoration, wildlife stewardship and outdoor youth education.

Enjoy light snacks by Salt and Pepper Fox Catering, drinks by donation from Phillips Brewing and Tod Creek Craft Cider, silent auction, games, and fantastic tunes by The Bald Eagles (with arborist Ron Carter), Jill Robinson (HAT staff), and Matt Murray (Biologist).

The Silent Auction features fantastic items from local businesses including Sapphire Day Spa, Pacific Coastal Airlines, Il Terrazzo, Bin 4 Burger Lounge, Venturi-Schulze Winery, Victoria Symphony, Belfry Theatre, Trek and Treats, Russell Nursery, Victoria Royals, Float House Victoria, Orca Publishers, Robert Bateman, Ocean River Sports, Red Barn Market, the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific, Swan Lake, Saanich Native Plants, Pat Johnston Consulting, One Love Photography, as well as a handcrafted wood cutting board, wood turned ornaments and pens from the Hermann Family.

This is a resurrection of a traditional HAT fundraising event. It is a great way for people in the community to celebrate our amazing local creatures in need of our help like the bats, slugs, and frogs.”

The funds raised will go towards HATs main conservation programs: habitat protection, wildlife stewardship and youth education.

Advance tickets are $20 and include some light snacks, one drink, and admission, or VIP Tickets for $40 VIP that includes a HAT hat (limit 30).
