THE IMMIGRANT WELCOME CENTRE is pleased to announce it�s time for our 4th Annual Multicultural Health Fest. The 4th Annual Multicultural Healthfest is a free event and open to the public. Healthfest was created to provide newcomers, immigrants and ethno-cultural communities with access to a wide range of health and wellness resources, presented in a number of languages including Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Korean, Vietnamese, Farsi, Punjabi, Spanish and many more.


One out of seven people living in Nanaimo is an immigrant. On average, the Immigrant Welcome Centre welcomes one new immigrant family a day. Did you know immigrants generally arrive in better health than their Canadian-born peers? However, overtime as they integrate into Canadian society and adopt behaviours that have negative health impact, including eating non-traditional and less healthy foods, their health declines. This decline can be intensified by the stress that comes with the challenges of finding suitable employment and establishing a new social support network.


The goal of MULTICULTURAL HEALTHFEST 2011 is to promote healthy living and to reduce barriers to health services often experienced by immigrants living in our diverse community.
