MAKING A STATEMENT: A workshop for writing artists' statements
Saturday, October 21 Workshop and Tour, 2 - 4 pm Registration required $25 Members | $27 non-Members Workshop Requirements: writing material and a small piece of your artwork Included will be a tour of Jin-me Yoon’s solo show at the Nanaimo Art Gallery guided by Yvonne Vander Kooi (Art Education Coordinator).
Artists often need to produce a statement about their work for a show, for their website, or when applying for a grant. This workshop explores how you can go beyond the obscurity of “artspeak” to present an open, honest statement of your current work or the work you intend to do in the future.
Facilitator Naomi Beth Wakan is a personal essayist, the Inaugural Poet Laureate of Nanaimo and the Inaugural Honorary Ambassador for the Federation of BC Writers. She has written over fifty books including “On the Arts,” a series of essays on various aspects of creativity based on pieces written for the American Art magazine, Still Point Arts Quarterly.
