Nada emphasizes the importance of Egyptian Folklore and culture in her teaching of Egyptian dances, moving away from tropes of “belly dance” and towards preserving her history and bringing back the mystique, elegance, and sophistication of her art form. ____________________________________________
Baladi Dance Workshop 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM Nada El Masriya will open the day by guiding participants through an introduction to Baladi, a dance form rooted in local culture and everyday life, and how to perform it in the most authentic way, as Egyptian people do back home.

The Evolution of Egyptian Dances Lecture 11:10 AM - 12:40 PM Nada El Masriya will explore how various dances have emerged from Egypt's history and cultural tapestry. Nada will discuss how socio-political changes have influenced this embodied art, and offer an overview of changing musical landscapes, influential dancers, and the role of Egyptian dances on global stages. Her talk will be followed by a Q&A.

The Awalim & Ghawazee Dance Workshop 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Placing the characteristic subtlety and gracefulness of the Awalim and the vibrant and energetic movements of the Ghawazee within their historical contexts, Nada El Masriya will lead students through dances that demonstrate the distinct influence of these two traditions on Egyptian dance forms today.

The Golden Era Dance Workshop 3:40 PM - 5:10 PM Nada El Masriya will finish the day by teaching all the juiciness of the Golden Era Dance movements in Egypt. These elegant, fluid movements will be perfect to show off at the evening’s dance party!
