Introduction to Calligraphy with the Uncial Style

Have you always wanted to learn calligraphy? It all starts with learning how to draw the correct guidelines, form the stroke sequence and be open to spending time on practice, just like taking up a musical instrument!

In this two-part workshop series, we will concentrate on the formal style called Uncial. We will begin with a pencil then move on to a calligraphy felt marker. Other tools and supplies will be discussed.

The fee of $​80 per person includes your admission to BOTH classes in this workshop series on the following dates:

Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 1pm-3:30pm

Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 1pm-3:30pm

SUPPLY LIST

Bring a pencil, ruler, eraser, 8-1/2" x 11" blank paper and $15 for a calligraphy felt pen, paper samples and instruction kit.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Kathy Guthrie is a mixed media artist based in Victoria BC. She has been practicing art for over 30 years and her mediums of expertise include lettering arts, printmaking, collage and mixed media techniques and has participated in juried art shows across Canada. CLASS LOCATION This workshop series is hosted by the Arts & Culture Colwood Society in a bright & modern gallery space that looks out to the Esquimalt Lagoon and the Colwood Waterfront beyond, where you will be surrounded by beautiful artwork from our current exhibitions.
