2:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Close your eyes and picture a summer afternoon on Hornby Island; warm breezes through the vineyard carrying the tantalizing scents and sounds of locally and regionally produced spirits and gourmet snacks, live music, delighted laughter, and conversation in company with renowned artists displaying their works. Bring your friends and enjoy a truly Hornby experience.
This second annual Hornby Tastings will feature three wineries, a local artisan meadery, two breweries and two distilleries. MooBerry Winery, from Morningstar Farm in Parksville, produces a selection of high quality fruit wines using homegrown berries. Blue Moon Estate Winery is located in Courtenay on an organic blueberry farm and specializes in exciting table and dessert wines made from locally grown certified organic berries and fruit. Our host, Carbrea Vineyard and Winery, grows a selection of cool climate grapes; pinot noir, pinot gris, gewurztraminer, and agria. Middle Mountain Mead produces a wine made from honey and flavoured with herbs, fruit, teas and other botanical elements. Surgenor Brewery, also located in Courtenay, produces fine quality premier craft beers: Red House Ale, Steam Donkey Lager, and the newest addition - In-Seine Pale Ale. Longwood Brewery, hailing from Nanaimo, uses barley shipped from the original Guinness malt house in Westminster, England. Keep your palates sharp for the sensations provided by Island Spirits Distillery, another Hornby enterprise, which focuses on clear highly refined spirits-they make a lovely aromatic gin and velvety smooth vodka. Shelter Point Distillery will soon be a true boutique distillery, endeavoring to produce a single malt whiskey that captures the spirit of Vancouver Island while paying homage to our Scottish traditions and ancestors.
Accompanying all those spiritual delights will be gourmet snacks to get you back on solid ground! Old Rose Nursery and Farm, The Persian Palate, Jasmine's Mexican Foods and Cardboard House Bakery will bring along nibblies and other tastings to further amaze your taste buds.
To further stimulate your senses, there will be over fourteen local artists at the vineyard - painters, sculptors, potters and even a luthier! Some will actively be creating a new piece on site. The finishing touches to the ambiance of this abundant sensory cornucopia will be music for your ears - exciting and plentiful, the sounds will provide the perfect counterpoint to this Hornby Festival fundraiser.
Just two short ferry rides from Vancouver Island-Hornby's sandy beaches and rural charm have made it a legendary favourite for vacation getaways. Our mild climate, mellow atmosphere, and support for the arts provide an ideal setting for a vibrant, eclectic community. We invite you to join us: come for a day, a weekend, or a week and time your visit so you can taste some of our delights and spend an afternoon at beautiful Carbrea Vineyard.
