Pairing famous Salt Spring Island lamb with Burrowing Owl Estate Winery’s ripe and intense 2011 Syrah is just one of the highlights of Hastings House Country House Hotel’s Harvest Dinner. A sumptuous five-course menu has been prepared to celebrate the harvest while featuring the property’s best-selling wines from Burrowing Owl Estate Winery in Oliver, BC.
Hastings House is delighted to showcase the delicious wines of Burrowing Owl Estate Winery and celebrate a relationship that has existed since 1997. Hastings House Managing Director, Adrienne Parks, says hotel diners savour these wines. “We have taken note over the years of guests who are not only familiar with Burrowing Owl Estate Winery but have been to the vineyard and come back with new stories to share about their experiences and why the exceptional flavours enhance our menu so well.”
Burrowing Owl Estate Winery spokesperson, Chris Wyse, says enjoying the bounty of the season at Hastings House offers an equally rich experience, “The wine pairings are exuberant when paired with a menu designed by Executive Chef Marcel Kauer, using fresh, creative, and sustainable food.”
The September 19 Harvest Dinner Menu:
- A canapé starter features Gulf Island Dungeness Crab paired with the zesty apple acidity of the 2013 Pinot Gris.
- The first course offers a rare albacore tuna with the flavour of baked golden apple and tropical notes of the 2012 Chardonnay.
- The second course consists of wild mushroom and Armagnac bisque complemented by the bright, red fruit side of the 2011 Pinot Noir.
- The star main course is herb crusted Salt Spring Island lamb chops paired with the 2011 Syrah, delivering aromas of damson, plum, milk chocolate, custard, blackberry, black olive, and dark cherry with smoked paprika and a background of freshly ground black pepper.
- For dessert, a local wild blackberry and heritage apple tart with blackberry sorbet round off the menu, paired with the fortified port-style wine, Coruja, displaying a complex array of flavours.
