FAQ:

**What is WUSC (World University Service of Canada)?**

Founded in 1939, WUSC (World University Service of Canada) is a not for profit, non-governmental organization. WUSC involves Canadians in International Development issues in Canada and overseas. WUSC's mission is to foster human development and global understanding through education and training. For more information visit www.wusc.ca

With three decades of experience in international development, WUSC is recognized as one of Canada's leading NGOs for the design, implementation and management of education and capacity development projects.

**What is the Student Refugee Program (SRP)?**

WUSC's Student Refugee Program is a unique youth-to-youth sponsorship initiative, where Canadian students sponsor students from refugee camps to come and pursue their studies in Canada. It's the only program of its kind in the world.

**What is the SRP like at VIU?**

VIU's WUSC Local Committee was founded in 2008. Initially, we were only financially able to sponsor one student per year. Recently, we have been able to sponsor two students per year, mainly from the areas of Somalia and South Sudan. They have spent much of their lives in the Kenyan refugee camps of Dadaab and Kakuma.

In addition to providing the students with financial support, the Local Committee also provides them with social support and help with adjusting to life in Canada.
