GEEKCON Nanaimo 2019

The Nanaimo Harbourfront branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library invites children, teens and adults of all ages to join us for GEEKCON. We have a full day of gaming and geeky events planned where participants can get their geek-on through gaming tournaments, cosplay and local graphic novelists. All events are free. Come geek out with us!

Where: 90 Commercial Street, Nanaimo, BC

When: June 22, 2019. 10am – 5pm

Join us at the Harbourfront Library for a celebration of Geek Culture with all day entertainment, vendors, video game tournaments, board games, PokemonGo, a cosplay competition, and much more. Fun for the whole family.

GEEKCON 2019 Event Schedule @ Nanaimo Harbourfront, 90 Commercial Street

Vendor Alley 10 am – 5 pm

Vendor alley brings together a mirage of graphic novelists, illustrators, cosplayers, local community groups and business sharing their hobbies. All ages.

Retro Gaming Zone 10 am – 4 pm

The Comox Valley Geek Society will be setting up a variety of retro games and systems. Suitable for all ages.

Board Game Zone 10 am – 4 pm

The Harbourfront library boasts a large board game collection with over 70 modern board games to choose from. Join a scheduled game or find a group and start your own. Suitable for all ages.

Pokeball Making Workshop 11:30 am

Skookum Armour and Props will be teaching how to make your own Pokeball. Materials will be provided on site. Suitable for ages 8 and up. Maximum 24 participants. Sign up on the day of Geekcon.

Combat Zone and Archery Range 10:30 am - 4:30pm

Local martial arts experts from the Proving Grounds will be on hand with foam tipped arrows and foams swords with protective gear. Suitable for 6 and up with a partner of a similar age.

Free Face Painting 11-4 pm

Come get your face painted!

Suitable for Ages 3 - 99

MINECRAFT Playzone 11 am – 3 pm

Do you have the MINECRAFT skills the build a champion level building? In creative mode, each player will have 30 minutes to build their own creation. Random prizes and give-aways for all participants. Register the day of to ensure your spot. Suitable for ages 6 – 13.

Virtual Reality Zone  11 am

Nanaimo’s VRKADE will be on hand to demo some of the leading virtual reality games. Age is game-dependent.

Magic the Gathering Tournament: Standard Format 11 am,

registration starts at 10:30am.

Join us for a MTG tournament, Standard format. The tournament will be played out over three rounds. Suitable for ages 10 and up.

All Ages Cosplay Competition 1 pm,

registration starts at 10:30am

Join us for our all ages cosplay competition. Show off your cosplay outfit or come and watch the various superhero and anime characters come to life. Suitable for all ages.

Smash and Stab Tournament 1:30 pm

Join us for our Super Smash Bros and Foam sword fighting tournaments. Super Smash Bros will be played on the Wii U. Suitable for ages 8 and up.

Cosplay Panel 2 pm

Melding plastics and creating your own costume can be a lot of fun and challenging. Some of the islands best costume designers talk about how to work with a variety of materials and how they make their designs. Suitable for all ages.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail Interactive Viewing 3 pm

Join us for a fun and interactive viewing of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Suitable for ages 13 and up.
