GEEKCON Nanaimo 2019
=0D=0A=The Nanaimo Harbourfront branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library invites children, teens and adults of all ages to join us for GEEKCON. We have a full day of gaming and geeky events planned where participants can get their geek-on through gaming tournaments, cosplay and local graphic novelists. All events are free. Come geek out with us!

=0D=0A=Join us at the Harbourfront Library for a celebration of Geek Culture with all day entertainment, vendors, video game tournaments, board games, PokemonGo, a cosplay competition, and much more. Fun for the whole family.

=0D=0A=Vendor Alley 10 am – 5 pm
=0D=0A=Vendor alley brings together a mirage of graphic novelists, illustrators, cosplayers, local community groups and business sharing their hobbies. All ages.
=0D=0A=Retro Gaming Zone 10 am – 4 pm
=0D=0A=The Comox Valley Geek Society will be setting up a variety of retro games and systems. Suitable for all ages.
=0D=0A=Board Game Zone 10 am – 4 pm
=0D=0A=The Harbourfront library boasts a large board game collection with over 70 modern board games to choose from. Join a scheduled game or find a group and start your own. Suitable for all ages.
=0D=0A=Pokeball Making Workshop 11:30 am
=0D=0A=Skookum Armour and Props will be teaching how to make your own Pokeball. Materials will be provided on site. Suitable for ages 8 and up. Maximum 24 participants. Sign up on the day of Geekcon.
=0D=0A=Combat Zone and Archery Range 10:30 am - 4:30pm
=0D=0A=Local martial arts experts from the Proving Grounds will be on hand with foam tipped arrows and foams swords with protective gear. Suitable for 6 and up with a partner of a similar age.
=0D=0A=Free Face Painting 11-4 pm
=0D=0A=Come get your face painted!
=0D=0A=Suitable for Ages 3 - 99
=0D=0A=MINECRAFT Playzone 11 am – 3 pm
=0D=0A=Do you have the MINECRAFT skills the build a champion level building? In creative mode, each player will have 30 minutes to build their own creation. Random prizes and give-aways for all participants. Register the day of to ensure your spot. Suitable for ages 6 – 13.
=0D=0A=Virtual Reality Zone 11 am
=0D=0A=Nanaimo’s VRKADE will be on hand to demo some of the leading virtual reality games. Age is game-dependent.
=0D=0A=Magic the Gathering Tournament: Standard Format 11 am,
=0D=0A=registration starts at 10:30am.
=0D=0A=Join us for a MTG tournament, Standard format. The tournament will be played out over three rounds. Suitable for ages 10 and up.
=0D=0A=All Ages Cosplay Competition 1 pm,
=0D=0A=registration starts at 10:30am
=0D=0A=Join us for our all ages cosplay competition. Show off your cosplay outfit or come and watch the various superhero and anime characters come to life. Suitable for all ages.
=0D=0A=Smash and Stab Tournament 1:30 pm
=0D=0A=Join us for our Super Smash Bros and Foam sword fighting tournaments. Super Smash Bros will be played on the Wii U. Suitable for ages 8 and up.
=0D=0A=Cosplay Panel 2 pm
=0D=0A=Melding plastics and creating your own costume can be a lot of fun and challenging. Some of the islands best costume designers talk about how to work with a variety of materials and how they make their designs. Suitable for all ages.
=0D=0A=Monty Python and the Holy Grail Interactive Viewing 3 pm
=0D=0A=Join us for a fun and interactive viewing of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Suitable for ages 13 and up.
