Victoria, BC A new community outreach program at The Salvation Armys Addictions & Rehabilitation Centre: Friday Afternoon Music Jam.

A new weekly music program is starting at The Salvation Armys Addiction & Rehabilitation Centre, 525 Johnson Street. The Friday Afternoon Music Jam has been designed to reach out to our clients and members of the street community to support them in expressing themselves in a positive way. The program will inevitably encourage the development of a new talent within the participants.

The Salvation Army has always had a strong musical element in our history and knows firsthand the power that music can have in increasing self-confidence, building healthy social ties, mentorship and most importantly: a way to express yourself in an artistic medium.

Recently, staff at ARC have noticed some of our residents are gifted musicians through their impromptu practices in the Chapel. With an increase in music in the Chapel, program managers saw the need for a dedicated program to share musical expertise, offer additional instruments and create a musical community in the facility.

It became abundantly clear that there was a real need in this community and we had the resources to meet it, said Eric Murdoch, case worker at ARC.
