Food & Mood Connection with Dr. John Yim & Dr. Kyle Maynard

In this informative presentation, Drs. Yim and Maynard with explore the role food and nutrition in treating mood disorders. Dr Yim will present a number of cases that examine how low blood sugar, specific nutrient deficiencies, and endocrine disorders brought on mood disorders and how they were treated using nutrition.


Eating foods that are harmful to our brain is all too easy. Yet, these are the ones we rely on for a quick fix to get through difficult situations. Luckily, eating foods that are healthy for our brains is also easy. In the second half of the talk Dr. Maynard will be covering the foods that can be incorporated into our diet that will not only satisfy our brains anytime, but can even help with mood regulation. Dr. John Yim is a long time resident of Nanaimo.


After practicing as a registered massage therapist for seven years, he pursued a four year doctorate program in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University in Seattle, WA. Dr. Yim's maintain treatment modality is using food as medicine. Aside from helping patients one-on-one,


Dr. Yim is known in the community as knowledgeable and dynamic public speaker. Kyle Maynard was born and raised in Kamloops, BC. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Biology at Thompson Rivers University, he moved to Vancouver to attend UBC where he obtained a Master of Science in Neuroscience. His interest and exposure to how the brain works, encouraged him to pursue naturopathic medicine at Boucher Institute. Kyle has experience treating numerous conditions and has a special interest in behavior and brain health.
