The Festival’s theme this year is CONNEXIONS, which reflects some of our shared values – how the built environment connects a community; how well-designed spaces shape our life experiences, and how architects working together can contribute to solving problems even on a global scale, such as climate change.

This is the architecture and design event of the year!

The Festival will have a long-lasting impact on our community and is packed with opportunities to get involved, do business, have fun, learn and celebrate.

1) ATTEND PUBLIC EVENTS The Host Committee has designed a gamut of experiences for you to engage with the architectural community - many are free of charge, within the Shaw Auditorium: https://festival2016.raic.org/public-programming

3) VOLUNTEER Volunteer Registration is open until May 1 – fill out the form online .

Some additional activities to highlight for your interest and participation:
• The High School Parklet Design Competition has awarded three finalists the opportunity to build out their parklets before the Festival! These three parklets will be on display on Commercial Street during the Festival - and we invite you to come experience them - MORE INFO: https://festival2016.raic.org/design-competition
• Wednesday, June 8, 1 - 4 pm: Sketch Nanaimo! Join us to make brief sketches of what you see and hear downtown Nanaimo. The sketches will be held by the Nanaimo Archives as a legacy piece. This will become annual event. MORE INFO: https://festival2016.raic.org/activities-exhibitions
• Friday, June 10, 9 am - 12 pm: Downtown Nanaimo 6-site Design Charrette - Canada's largest - come watch architects in action! https://festival2016.raic.org/design-charrette
• Saturday, June 11, 6 pm - 11 pm: Downtown Nanaimo Street Party! Parklet winners on display, and local arts and culture highlighted…we would love for you to join us!
