Here is a taste of what you can be part of this weekend.

For details of day, time and location for specific events go to www.culturedays.ca, Activities, for a full schedule. FEASTIVAL, celebrating the Island's culinary culture, is a new and exciting showcase of the local food and beverage scene featuring some of the finest locally-sourced products, ingredients, talent and attractions on the mid-Island.

Meet the folks who make and grow your favourite food and drink, all in one place, at one amazing event. From fields to farms to fisheries, FEASTIVAL is the mid-island’s premiere food to fork event.

Like making movies? Ever wanted to make a movie? At a Film Jam, filmmakers of all kinds and experience come together to conceive and shoot a short film with the resources they have available in only 6 hours. Hub City Cinema Society invites you to bring any equipment, props, and acting chops that you think can be used to create a short film to the Culture Days Film Jam.

As a kick-off for Theatre One’s season of Just Kidding for Kids series of presentations for families, professional playwright and actress Nicolle Nattrass will host a free one-hour workshop at Vancouver Island University's Malaspina Theatre Studio. Participants aged 8-14yrs will get a backstage tour of the University theatre, get warmed up and comfortable in the new studio space, and then get right into the art of improvisation. Participants will have fun exploring activities such as the Name Game, the Martha Game and other classic improv exercises that ignite the imagination.

If you would like to take in several events in the same location, you can go to the Lois Lane Courtyard near the China Steps where you can be part of creating Nanaimo’s first collaborative tile mosaic that will be installed at the China Steps. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own items to use or share – beads, jewellery, colored glass, screws, bits of broken tile and pottery, beach glass, stones - whatever inspires you.

You can make your own tile mosaic square or be part of creating the border. The Nanaimo Arts Council is hosting this event and members will be more than happy to help you with your tile.

The Mid Island Metis Nation will also be there World of the Metis offering a glimpse at Metis history and a glance at the Metis today. There will be bannock, artifacts and you and your children can learn how to finger weave. The Nanaimo Ukulele Festival will also be on hand as will CHLY 101.7FM.

If visual art is your thing, you could take in exhibitions at the Nanaimo Art Gallery or the Nanaimo Museum.

If music is more to your taste you could visit the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music’s Open House with its instrument petting zoo and musical performances or take in The Music Chord of Nanaimo’s music performances.

You can also take in free musical performances presented by the Nanaimo African Heritage Society.
