Cowichan Bay Fire Rescue: Annual Polar Bear Swim
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Started on January 1, 2002 as a Dare, three of Cowichan Bay's Fire Fighters jumped of the dock and into the Icy Waters of the Pacific Ocean in Cowichan Bay.
Since then, it has grown in popularity, grown in attendance, attracted sponsors and community support and has become the "Official Polar Bear Swim" of Cowichan Bay. Each year a few dozen brave souls take the plunge and a few dozen more are there to watch.
Cowichan Bay Fire Rescue takes a lead role in event coordination, publicity and provides warm drinks and safety and PRIZES to those who take to annual run down the ramp!
If you are adventourous, or just plain crazy enough, come on down and join our swim! Each year on January 1st the croud starts to gather and register around 10:30am in a wide variety of "Swim Wear" and lines up for the almighty dip at 11:00am sharp!
