Vancouver based Chef Angus An, well regarded for his cutting edge Thai fare, now he brings his award-winning expertise and authentic Thai cuisine to Hastings House for Chefs Across the Water on September 15. The menu will utilize fresh island ingredients as the focal point, balanced with Thai flavours with a modern twist. This is the perfect fit for Chefs Across the Water, a guest chef series designed to highlight the bounty of the region�s produce while supporting island growers and farmers.

Chef Angus An is one of the most renowned Chefs in Vancouver, his restaurant Maenam has been named the city�s best Thai Restaurant since its inception in 2009, and is the only restaurant in North America to make the New York Times� list of �10 Restaurants Worth Leaving the Ship For.� An trained at New York�s French Culinary Institute and has cooked in Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide.

This is Chef An�s fist visit to Salt Spring Island, �I�m very excited to see the beautiful products the island provides; Salt Spring is suppose to be one of the most beautiful places in BC.� One of the highlights of his menu will be something the island is renowned for, �My favourite ingredient found there is lamb and it will be featured in the main course, Salt Spring lamb Geng Gola, a southern style dry curry.�

Hastings House Executive Chef Marcel Kauer fist met Chef Angus An at the DiRoNa Gala featuring distinguished restaurants of North America, of which both Maenam and Hastings House are members. It was here he invited him to come for Chefs Across the Water 2014. Chef Angus An graciously accepted and is looking forward to not only preparing an unforgettable meal, but using the wines from Kelowna-based Tantalus Winery to pair with the five course dinner.

Chefs Across the Water 2014 pricing: dinners are $130.00 and include wine pairings. Seating is limited to only 60 guests per dinner.

Proceeds from Chefs Across the Water events go towards Salt Spring Agricultural Alliance's effort to establish a storage and processing facility. So far $3000 have gone towards the now operational Salt Spring Island Abattoir. Hastings House Country House Hotel is proud to contribute to these and other worthwhile projects to support island farmers and livestock producers who in turn provide the dining room with the freshest, highest quality ingredients its loyal patrons deserve.
