Celebrating National Aboriginal Day
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
For many years the people of the Comox Valley have come together to celebrate the vibrant cultures and diversity of the First Nations, Mtis and Inuit peoples of Canada on National Aboriginal Day. On Saturday June 21 from 12-6pm, join us on the K'omoks Bighouse, Hall and grounds - the original K'omoks village site - to celebrate our country's rich cultural history.
Stroll around the K'omoks grounds to see the unique offerings of the craft and artisan vendors, storytellers and workshops. Witness traditional dances from groups all over the West Coast including the Kumugwe Dance Group - a Comox Valley-based Kwakwaka'wakw and K'omoks dance troupe. Savour Aboriginal foods such as wild sockeye salmon cooked traditionally around an open fire by the Kumugwe Cultural Society, buffalo burgers by the Mtis Association, and fresh bannock with homemade jam and candy-smoked salmon.
This year's National Aboriginal Day celebrations are being organized by the Kumugwe Cultural Society in partnership with the K'omoks First Nation.
